Just a Little...

Just a little update to say I am here and have many an adventure planned, as well as new posts. Been rather busy the last couple of weeks. I like to do at least one update a week though so I will be getting back into doing that, along with all the new stuff I mentioned before, which I can't WAIT to share with you!


So this past week my best friend Stacie had a baby. Here are a couple of  photos that I took for her of her and her baby daddy Tom. You can see more photos at Photos by MaryAnne & Brian! ( FIY - that is my photography business that I run with my hubs! It's where we get paid to do weddings and portraits of all kinds. My favorite to do are the couple and engagement photos. Those are always really fun. Band photos are really fun to do as well. The promotional kind. )

A Day in Winter

Brian and I took a mini-holiday over the weekend. We had to go to the snow since it wouldn't come to us. Not long enough to enjoy anyway. We went up to the Cascade/McCall area and yay, snow!

It gets in your bones.

A few weeks ago my hubs and I went for a winter hike with his brother's dog Sage. She hangs out with us a lot and is a big fan of long hikes. Particularly when they involve going off trail and climbing. The trail we went on wasn't too far from where we live. We went as far off trail as we could and then, at the top, we found another trail. Ha.

First of the Year

Been a little neglectful. A little procrastinating. A little shameful really. But not to worry. I haven't given up and I'm excited to add more stuff and share new things with you. I plan to share with you a few big things and some great posts. I will be adding a contributor page very soon, along with posts about the contributors to allow you to get to know them a bit. Eventually I won't be the only one that you'll be seeing on here. There are several awesome people interested in adding their input and creating awesome posts themselves. One of the new contributors I am happy to introduce to you is a cool girl named Michelle. She has a blog that you must check out!

She is very much into fashion and creates lovely outfits and shares them all the time on her blog. She posts nearly everyday and I enjoy checking it out. There's always something new and fascinating.

I also have another girl for you to see, the beginning of a new series of posts that showcase photo shoots that I do with cool people that I do the styling for, using their clothing. So basically it's a collaboration between the two styles of the model and the photographer, both in aesthetics and fashion.

Then of course I will be posting new photos of me in outfits. I am planning on doing some photos this weekend of an outfit or two in the snow! I can't wait! My boy and I are going on a mini-break in the mountains. A two day holiday to see a Winter Festival in McCall, Idaho where people will be making ice sculptures. I haven't gone to it in several years and I'm excited to go again.

Yesterday, I went on a little adventure in the trees with a dog name Sage. I decided to wear the second outfit I found at Re-Style the same day I found the cool shirt dress. The sweater dress, the gray cardigan, and the pale pink shoes were found at Re-Style.

October 15, 2011 - When I Married You

On October 15th I married my best friend, my favorite person, Brian. Lucky for us it was just about perfect and nothing could have been better. The weather was just right, the location was amazing and a lot of people showed up. Enough to fill the reception room without having an over or under flow. :)

I Remember it Well

I got a new dress this past weekend! It's another awesome find from a very cool thrift store in Boise, Idaho called Re-Style. It's a thrift store specifically run to raise money for homeless animals. I think that's pretty swell and they happen to have the best prices around, since all the other thrift stores around here decided they were something like Ross or TJ Maxx. Re-Style prices their items like a thrift store should. I don't think any of their clothes are over $5. I think maybe their vintage stuff might be, but that's understandable, if it's a cool piece. I also scored three sweaters, one being a very neat gray one that is something I've been searching for for a long time. I'll take photos soon to share with you!

 

Just Before Winter

Last week, I met with my sister to do family photos for her with her husband and their daughter Kataleena. It was cold and windy and kind of sucked altogether, but once we started doing photos it was fun. The park we went to was perfect for Fall photos. I was so in like with the location that I went back two days later to do photos with a model. You will be able to see photos from that shoot very soon.

The main subject of this entry is the outfit I wore that day. It was an accidental discovery really. I wasn't sure what to wear one day and I really loved that blazer I found at a thrift store and just really wanted to wear it. I really like the color combination and the belt made it look slimming. Dark natural colors look best on me. I really loved how complimentary the green tank went with the skirt and blazer.

Shoes

Shoes are not like they used to be. I can never seem to find any shoes worth buying at almost any store I go to. Ironically the best pairs of shoes that I have bought in the last 5 - 8 years, that last the longest and end up being ones I like wearing best, have been from Wal-Mart, but they seem to be phasing out their shoe section. It's probably less than half the size it was before. I found a cool pair of flats at Wal-Mart in Vegas, but they didn't have my size. Every other size was there but mine. Go figure.


I just don't have luck much at all in 'regular' stores, or feel like what I find is worth the money anymore. Shoes are getting cheaper looking, are less quality, and they seem to be more expensive. I went to Payless recently and the selection was pitiful and everything was expensive, at least to me. If something is good quality and can last a long time and feel comfortable then it's worth the price, but I haven't found any shoes that fit the description for me in a long time. Target seemed to be okay. They are hit or miss, but I didn't have the money at the time to get the cool oxfords they had. They didn't even had my size anyway. My size is just too average!


The best find that I have ever had for foot wear were my boots. Completely random, in a thrift store in Caldwell, Idaho - $7, brand new with padded inserts and completely awesome. I almost didn't bother because I thought they were too tight at first, but they were the boots of my dreams, the ones I had been searching for my whole life. My shoe soul mates to be precise. [No pun intended, which may only be a pun if I wrote - 'sole'.] They have been my best friends for over a year and I've worn them so much now that they are finally giving out and I don't know if I am ready to let them go just yet. I can't!

I wear them with a LOT of my looks. With leggings, with skirts, with shorts, with dresses....! They are perfect and they are the envy of the town. haha. I have been asked about where I got them and have received compliments about them almost every time I wear them somewhere.


So where can you find the best footwear? I think, though it takes some sole searching [pun intended because I couldn't help it! hahahaha!], thrift stores are where it's at. That's what I mean about the 'thrill of the hunt'. It takes time, energy, and a lot of disappointments, but just like love, you will eventually find the perfect fit. My husband [I am newly married!] found his all favorite shoes at thrift stores, each pair under $10 and they were all pretty much brand new. Actually, I found almost all of what he wore at our wedding at thrift stores. He wore his awesome Italian shoes that he found at a thrift store for $8. They were polished and looked very expensive. That's because some rich guy spent however much money on them brand new and then didn't want them anymore and donated them to the thrift store where my husband picked them up for a measly fraction of the cost!


Same for my boots. It seems that whoever had them before me hardly wore them, if at all, like they were meant for me and no one else would do.
